Job Title: Assistant Shop Manager
 
Department: WJ Castle Butchers & Delicatessen Burford
 
Location: Burford, United Kingdom
 
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Shop Manager.
 
Job Summary/Objective: The Assistant Shop Manager at WJ Castle Butchers & Delicatessen is responsible for maintaining the quality, standards, and customer service within the shop. In the absence of the Shop Manager, the Assistant Shop Manager will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient stock management, margin control, waste reduction, and adherence to company standards.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the shop during the absence of the Shop Manager, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Maintain proper stock management and rotation to optimize freshness and minimize waste.
  • Monitor and manage profit margins to meet company targets.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the shop.
  • Assist in the training and development of team members.
  • Ensure compliance with all company standards and policies.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years of butchery experience.
  • 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Level 2 health and hygiene certification desirable.
  • Previous managerial experience is preferable but not essential.
  • Experience working in a delicatessen or hospitality environment is a plus.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Maintain the target Gross Profit Percentage (GP%) for the store.
  • Monitor and control overhead costs to meet company goals.
  • Reduce waste percentages within the shop.
  • Achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Responsiveness in handling customer complaints.
Working Conditions:
  • Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Overtime may be required during peak seasonal periods.
  • Workdays will be scheduled on a rota from Tuesday to Sunday.
  • Free parking is available at the rear of the shop.
  • Uniform will be provided.

Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary: £28,000 per year based on a 45-hour working week.

Business Support Apprenticeship
Jesse Smith’s, Cirencester
£180 per week, £6.00 per hour
9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday with 1 hour for lunch

Jesse Smith’s are a family run business, running 5 retail shops throughout the Cotswolds with a wholesale catering unit and production kitchen at our site on Love Lane, Cirencester. Starting in 1808 in the centre of Cirencester, Jesse Smith’s now delivers all over the Cotswolds and further afield.

We have recently opened Knead bakery in Cirencester and have further exciting plans for expansion!

This is a truly fantastic opportunity to work within a growing company to assist the office team across a variety of roles, with exciting prospects at the end of your apprenticeship. You will work alongside managers and be in frequent contact with the Directors of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Working within a friendly office environment to assist in a variety of tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to;

  • Answering the telephones and providing an excellent service.
  • Assisting managers with their stock control by taking on the purchase ordering and maintaining records.
  • Distribution and manning of health and safety records.
  • Taking sales orders and processing for the catering team.
  • Liaising with our other shops to prepare shop food labels and various other requirements.
  • Some social media work to assist with the promotion of our brand.
  • General administrative duties.

As this apprenticeship will expose you to a large range of office duties, it is a superb training opportunity to set you up for your future.
